As I said before, my net4501 board is an OEM model and did not include the internal header for the second serial port. I had contemplated running a cable from inside the case out to the back of the board to connect to the serial port, or even soldering some wires to the underside of the PCB where the serial port is.

The Soekris machines are cool little gadgets. While fun to play with they can be a bit frustrating to setup on your first attempt. In this article I explain how to setup a NET4501 from start to first boot and hopefully in subsequent articles I'll explain how to do some of the interesting things I've tried. Plug USB to ethernet connector into Eth 0 on Soekris. Bring up USB to ethernet connector with address 192.168.0.1 (mine sits at eh3).
